Brenda Bednar, CNM
Brenda joined Mansfield Ob/Gyn in August 2010. She graduated from Yale University’s School of Nursing with a Masters in Nursing and is a Certified Nurse Midwife. Brenda is a member of the American College of Nurse Midwives.
Prior to beginning her midwifery career, Brenda worked in the field of refugee resettlement. Her focus was literacy and education for Somali women that were resettled to the Boston area. After working closely with women who were pregnant or seeking gynecological health care, she realized the importance of midwifery care in a woman’s life.
Brenda’s work and studies have brought her to work with midwives in Kenya and Uganda, where she made wonderful friends, gained unique experience and conducted research on the effects of US policies on women’s reproductive health care and access to contraceptives.
Originally from a small farming community in Wisconsin, Brenda is pleased to be surrounded by rolling farmland and the welcoming community she found here. She is excited to be a member of the Mansfield OB/GYN practice and to work with the Mansfield and Willimantic communities.
